An interview with Mick Dillon, Chief Executive

Can you tell us a little about your business?

The Disability Resource Centre (DRC) is an information charity supporting disabled people, their families and professionals throughout Bedfordshire, Luton & Northamptonshire. 2015 is our 21st year of operation, achieving record turnover for the organisation.

What issues did you have?

IT is an integral tool we use every day, so inevitably our needs continue to evolve. Over the last six years we’ve used a number of providers, making us focus on both cost and service delivery. So we were keen to see what could be achieved in a holistic way and whether we could get a better customer experience.

Why did you choose CMC?

I was invited to a business breakfast club 3 years ago where I met John Groves and CMC. They immediately gave us, as non-IT experts, confidence that they could deliver the services we needed at a fair price – we were keen to see what we could achieve together so they were included in a competitive tender.

What did they do for you?

CMC have helped maintain our LAN through remote monitoring and site visits, set up a very useful telephone help-desk that all staff can engage with and helped ensure that our infrastructure remains stable with back-up and cloud storage solutions. They have also installed a new phone system and high-speed broadband connection, together with new mobile phones handsets and at better contract tariffs.

They have given us the confidence to embrace technology further, and we are currently exploring CRM databases to further interact with our clients.

What are they like to work with?

We see a lot of opportunities and benefits by having a single partner, especially one that gives us renewed confidence in the technology coming forward. Service from CMC is both timely and highly effective, enabling us to compete above our weight: we have been nationally recognised as a user-led organisation by The Office for Disability Issues in Central Government and are frequently competing against organisations in the £3m-5m annual turnover category.
